Information |
This is the anticipated follow up to the Life is Beautiful 10" (HALVEP016, December 2004) with ten tracks of a raging mix of crustcore and classic Swedish rÄpunk. Nine new tracks and a re-recorded version of the song Sjuka JÀvlar from their split 7" with Human Waste (HALVEP011, July 2004). Never before have Personkrets 3:1 hitten so hard, screamed so loud and played so fast. Here they show that they can go from attacking furious tracks to longer moodier tunes, and balancing a lot of their material in between those two styles. Parts of the emotional side of the sound are gone to give more space to the more raw side of Personkrets 3:1. Let us guide you through what we know as the Glorious Dead!

Alla vet ju att punkhistorierna alltid börjar med "In 1997 me and X started playing together and both thought that we should move on..", sÄ vi skippar den biten.

Global Domination, [written by The Abyss. Distributed by Sound Pollution] |
By their own description, Personkrets 3:1 (the name is taken from a play with the same name by Swedish director Lars NorĂ©n) plays âgloomy crustcore from the cold north of Swedenâ and judging from their debut album, âThe Glorious Penisâ, Iâd say itâs a pretty fucking apt one. When playing crustpunk in any way, shape or form you need the d-beat, and that in itself can make an album really fucking repetitive. Personkrets 3:1 has solved this by mixing in small amounts of metal-riffs and hardcore-breaks to make matters a bit more varied, and for that I applaud them. Theyâre by no means reinventing the wheel, but fuck me do they groove some times. The bass-intro on âDödenâ being a prime example and a great way to open up the album.
When compared to the more established bands in the Swedish scene, like Skitsystem and Totalt JĂ€vla Mörker, P3:1 (wasnât he in Star Wars?) still have a fair distance to go when it comes to quality songwriting but the building blocks are already there. Itâs just a matter of a few more years of experience and then I think P3:1 might well be up for challenging the big boys. As for now, about 60% of the songs are good, 15% are awesome and 25% donât do much for me. Still, not a bad ratio, if you ask me.
An added plus must be made for the fitting production; gritty, messy but still well-balanced and clear, and the very nice-looking (slightly reminiscent of Pushead) artwork by some dude named Steve. |

My Last Chapter, [written by Kristoffer Persson. Distributed by Sound Pollution] |
First I got the CD version from Halvfabrikat, and a couple of weeks later I got the LP version from Blindead. This is the first time Iâve gotten dual formats of an album, so itâll be my first time taking both formats into consideration when reviewing.
In the past Iâve complained over and over about the weak vocals of this guy RĂ€kan (whose nick name co-incidentally means The Shrimp), and to my delight my prayers have finally been answered. He no longer sounds like a weeping five-year-old. Itâs much harsher and raw, which definitely fits the bill. After about half the album I still wish for some growl-like back up, but itâs bearable without it. Music-wise it doesnât have the same impact as the previous Life is beautiful 10â, but that doesnât mean itâs bad. It still sounds heavily influenced by Acursed, but theyâve incorporated a lot more hardcore, so occasionally it feels a lot like Ambulance. Quite moody and atmospheric with a lot of really great parts, but Iâm a bit tired of the oh-so-popular Tragedy type of crust, and thatâs where I think this ends up. The promo sheet says that this is a âmore raw side of Personkrets 3:1â, but to me it ends up in the wrong corner of crustcore.
Thereâs not a whole lot differentiating the CD from the LP. Pretty much the only thing is that the LPâs insert can be unfolded and used as a killer-looking poster, and the CD version contains the same artwork as a centrefold. As always some prefer vinyl of CD and vice versa, but to me the LP sounds harsher. |

De lÄtarna stavas 'The Glorious Dead' och 'See and Believe'. |

Blindead Productions + Mailorder update, [written by Krogh. Distributed by Sound Pollution] |
Blindead Prod released the LP of this, so I don't have to say I love it. Personkrets 3:1 does on this LP follow up the great "Life is Beautiful" 10" with 10 tracks of a raging mix of crustcore and classic Swedish rÄpunk.
They do on this CD show that they can go from attacking furious tracks to longer moodier tunes, and balancing a lot of their material in between those two styles.
9 new tracks and a re-recorded version of "Sjuka JĂ€vlar" from their split 7" with Human Waste. Also available on LP. |

Ever since I received this record in the mail, it's been spinning in my stereo non-stop! This is Personkrets 3:1 from UmeĂ„ latest album. And it's one of these growing records, the more you listen to it the more you come to like it; you even constantly find new interesting things in the music. The front cover of the record is a killer cover made by Steve from Visions of War. Skulls, Weapons/Bombs and Gasmasks; all the elements you need for a crusty record. And a crusty record it sure is. The best way to try and describe Personkrets 3:1 would be dark driving crust with a deterrent atmosphere all over the tracks, because the tracks come crushing down on you and are at times creepy as hell. The band does what I sometimes (or quite often) miss in many punkbands; instrumental build ups of the music and after that they release their anger. I really appreciate their melodic leads and musical style, and I think they've managed very well with this record and are onto something really good. Iâve got nothing left to say but: All you crusties go check this band out NOW! |
